WHOLE CHARACTER
写xiě
to write (写字, 写作); to describe; to depict (描写, 写实)
写 is to write — pen to paper, or describing life in words.
The header says the older 寫 was 形声 with the top as meaning and bottom as sound; the simplified 写 keeps the cover radical over a reduced piece, so no sound rule is taught.
TOP COVER PIECE (THE RADICAL 冖)
冖mì
cover
Shown as a modern visual piece in 爱; no simplified-character historical role is invented.
In 写: top cover piece (the radical 冖) ZDIC lists 冖 as the radical; the older 寫 paired a roof with the sound piece 舄, both reduced here.
LOWER PIECE (与)
与yǔ; yù
and; to give (yǔ/yù)
A standalone character; in 写 it is the reduced lower piece with no claimed role.
In 写: lower piece (与) Shown as the lower piece; 与's standalone meaning is not claimed here.
